7.3.1. Discovering Lisbon’s African Heritage 143 Author Batoto Yetu Portugal Type of Heritage Interpretation activity Itinerary / Guided tour Brief description Batoto Yetu started as a programme to keep African culture alive within the diaspora, teaching dances and percussion of African tradition to young people. The association was created in 1996 to participate in the events organised on the occasion of Lisbon’s Expo 98, where they represented traditional African culture in dances and percussion. In recent years, Batoto Yetu started to rethink its work to enhance African heritage, particularly among the new digital generations that, unlike previous ones, are less interested in physical activity.
